Rocks Questions

1.  What are differences between metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous rocks?
     Sedimentary rocks: formed from pre-existing rocks or pieces of once-living organisms.
     Metamorphic rocks: transformation of the pre-existing rocks by heat and pressure. 
     Igneous rocks: form by the cooling of molten magma. 

2.  What rock did you find the most interesting?  Why?
     Pumice is the most interesting rock for me because it can float on water.

3.  What are grains in the rocks?  can  you show me? 
  Grains are individual particle in the rock.

4.  What are the crystals in the rocks?  can you show me?
Crystals in the rocks are formed when the magma cools down. The size of the crystals depend on how fast the magma cools down.

Funnel: makes pouring easier

Clamp:  secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burets to the ringstand. 

Evaporating dish: for evaporating liquid mixtures
Scoopula: handling small amount of material, used to transfer solid

O wire: picking up small specimens

heat shield: shield a substance from absorbing excessive heat from an outside source 

Specimen cup: container

watch glass: hold a solid while being weighted or to cover a beaker

Test tube: for holding, mixing and heating small amounts of liquids and solids

Beaker: for holding and pouring liquids

pipette: used to move small amount of liquid chemicals.
Stirring rod: use to mix and stir solution

Measuring Cylinder: use to measure the volume of liquid in milliliters
